"In the Spirit of Dorothy Johnson" Award, 2016
The Whitefish Library Association honored Carol with the "Spirit of Dorothy Johnson" award at a gala book festival on June 4, 2016. This award, to be given annually, rewards the author whose roots are in Montana and whose books reflect the courage, determination, and history of Montanans.
"I'm honored and humbled to receive this award," Carol said. "Dorothy Johnson has long been an idol of mine. She broke ground for women writing the West with the no-nonsense realism of her writing. To be honored with the award that carries her name is awe-inspiring."
Carol Buchanan receives the award from Donna Maddux, organizer of the Whitefish Library Association. At left is Richard Buchanan, who designed the cover of The Ghost at Beaverhead Rock. The plaque, with many more names yet to come, may be seen at the Whitefish Community Library.
